Eid-ul-Fitr

Eid-ul-Fitr is the biggest religious festival all over the world for all Muslims country and also Bangladesh. Due to this great festival, Muslims are spending three days holiday that marks the end of the holy Ramadan. Eid-ul-Fitr falls on the first day of the Arabic month Shawwal. Shawwal is the 10th month of the Islamic calendar. Eid-ul-Fitr is an Arabic word. Here, “Eid” means “festivity” and “Fitr” means “original nature”. Eid-ul-Fitr celebrates the end of the 29 or 30 days of dawn-to-sunset fasting during the entire month of Ramadan. Eid-ul-Fitr is considered
"greater" than Eid ul-Azha and it is the most important feast for Muslims. This is one of the major celebration cultures of Bangladesh because Bangladesh is a Muslim country.

Eid-ul-Fitr started was 610 A.D. when the prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SM) was said to have received revelations from Allah that later became Islam’s holy book, the holy Quran. The holy Quran states about this Eid-ul-Fitr that, “And the servants of Allah . . . are those who walked on the earth in humility, and when the ignorant address them, they say 'Peace'” [25:63]

“O mankind! We created you from a single soul, male and female, and made you into nations and tribes, so that you may come to know one another. Truly, the most honored of you in Gods sight is the greatest of you in piety. God is All-Knowing, all-aware.” [49:13]

In the morning of the day most of the Bengali people go to Eid Gha or Masjid for prayer with Jamat like other Muslim country. The Eid-ul-Fitr Shalat is wajib and it performed an open place of field or big road. This Shalat is performed in different times but in the morning. After praying they embrace with one another. In this day nobody remain hungry and unhappy. Every one tries there best to pass this day as their best.

Eid-ul-Fitr is observed in Bangladesh with great excitement. Everyone tries to dress well and prepares special dishes according to their ability on this day. Relatives and neighbors also share the joys of this festival with each other. Common greetings during these three holidays are the Arabic greeting “Eid Mubarak” ("Blessed Eid"). After praying, everyone take their breakfast and after that they visit their neighbor or relatives house. Many people also visit in the Eid fair. This fair is arranged on the bank of a nearby river or under a big tree or in the open field or in the local bazaar.

In the middle of the day people perform their second prayer (Johor) and take their Eid’s special dishes with all family member or relatives or neighbor. Then people visit many places for enjoy. In this day, Dhaka is completely free from traffic jam because most of the people go to their village for enjoy this day. Besides Dhaka, Chittagong, Barisal, Khulna, Rangpur, Rajshahi and Sylhet has also free from traffic jam because all shopping malls, shops and offices are closed in this day.

Eid-ul-Fitr educates the people to community about the Islamic religion and taking care of others.
