ICC World Cup 2011 Opening Ceremony:
The opening ceremony of the ICC World Cup 2011 took place in Bangladesh at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka on 17 February, 2011 at 05:30 PM. The cost of the opening ceremony was estimated to be US$30 million (£18.6m). And at last Bangladesh successfully completed their grand opening ceremony. This opening ceremony was very colorful and gorgeous. This was also very attractive for the whole world. ESPN (the official broadcasters of the ICC events) produced the telecast of the opening ceremony. Besides this, various channels
throughout the world used the downlink feed of ESPN's production to provide their respective viewers, live broadcast of the ceremony. Bangladesh Television (BTV) also telecast this gorgeous opening ceremony in the whole Bangladesh.
The opening ceremony started on 6:00 PM (Local Time) when the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina arrived and she was welcomed by handing a water-lily (the national flower of Bangladesh). Then the Chayanath choir wearing red and green saris (female) and fatua (male) sang the National Anthem of Bangladesh. After that, the countdown began which showed a montage of all the scenes of the previous world cup. Then around 6:15 PM, popular Bangladeshi pop singers Mila, Balam, Ornob, Ibrar Tipu and a lot of others sang the song "O Preethibi" which was enjoyed both by local and foreigners.
Stumpy (the tournament mascot) was escorted into the ground on a cycle rickshaw and then pedal-powered cycle rickshaws escorted each of the captains into the center. The captains were accompanied by young children who wore the jersey of the team they were with. The captains assembled at the stage and fireworks take off from the stadium. Indian popular singer Sonu Nigam sang Spirit of Cricket or "Let's Go for Glory" in the stage. After that a video footage was shown on the big screen which showed Sangakkara (Sri Lanka’s Captain) and Sehwag (Opener of the Indian team) promoting AIDS awareness. Then the chairman of the BCB (Mustafa Kamal) delivers his speech at first in English and then in Bengali. ICC chief (Sharad Pawar) walks up and delivered his speech at first in Bengali and then in English. After that Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina delivered her speech and declared the opening of World Cup.
After the opening, the cultural program showing the heritages of Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and the India's performance. Bangladesh showing their history of the International Mother Language Day, Liberation War of Bangladesh’s history, national flowers of Bangladesh, national birds of Bangladesh and many other histories. Then Bangladesh famous singers Runa Laila, Sabina Yasmin, Momtaz Begum perform some beautiful song. India and Sri Lanka’s performers also had shown some extra-ordinary performance. Electronic kites were being flown above the stadium and then a 3-D electronic depiction of the World Cup on a building outside the stadium was shown. The cup was gone and an image of the Bangabandhu stadium was displayed. A cricket match was being shown; after the display the cultural show began. A video footage (“The Beautiful Bangladesh” or “Welcome to Beautiful Bangladesh”) also had shown all Bangladesh’s history. At the end Canadian rock singer Bryan Adams performed his famous song “Let's Make a Night to Remember”, “18 till I Die” and "Summer of '69" and finally Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy sang the tournament's official song ("De Ghuma Ke").
