National Flag of Bangladesh

The national flag of Bangladesh is the symbol of Bangladesh. It is generally known as “Jatiyo Potaka”. Here “Jatiyo” means “National” and “Potaka” means “Flag”. This flag was officially adopted on 17th January 1972. It may be made of cotton, linen or silk. It is rectangular in shape. The back ground of the flag is bottle green in color with a sun globe in the centre. The bottle green color stands for the ever lasting freshness, lushness of the natural of Bangladesh, youth, vigor and vitality of nation. The sun is the source of all life on earth. Hence the sun-globe signifies
that Bangladesh nation is continuous and ever-lasting as life glory. It may be said to stand for the bright future of nation. The blood red color of the sun globe is a fighting memorial for the endless sacrifice of nation in the bloody struggle for liberation.

A similar flag used during the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971. There was a yellow map on the flag but later the map was deleted from the flag by the order of General Abul Manzur due to the difficulty rendering the map correctly on both sides of the flag. So, the first flag doesn’t exist anymore. This flag was originally designed by Shib Narayan Das, who was a Student Leaders of “Shawdhin Bangla Nucleus painter”. Some people believe that, it was designed by Quamrul Hassan. The initial version of the flag was hoisted in Bangladesh for the first time at the Dhaka University on 2nd March 1971 and on 26th March 1971; Sheikh Mujibur Rahman flew the flag in his residence after the independence of Bangladesh.

There is some rules about this flag according to flag rules (1972) including,
